Decorated cages

A conversation with one of Sweden´s largest group of companies for egg-production:

– Hello! My name is Ronja and I study interior architecture. I am currently conducting a project where I study how hens within the industry live. I have a question regarding hens which I would like to know if you could answer?

– *Silence*

– Hello?

– Did I understand you correctly or did you say that you study interior architecture?

Technology is progressing and society is being increasingly effective. It is not only humans which are affected. Do we have time to stop and reflect upon our effect on our surroundings?

In my degree project, I will twist and turn power structures, politics, empathy and playfulness. Can one become more emphatic from a chair? Is it possible to create a political bed? Can a lamp invite playfulness? Can interior design and architecture function as a tool to understand differences and bodies? Can we create new conditions for complex future discussions by the creating of space?

I have studied the term ‘decorated cages’ which exist in the egg-production industry. I will let the project balance between being playful and serious. My main focus has been to try to understand extreme environments, materials and systems.

How would the world look if a hen was in the centre of our architecture?

Inredda burar
