About Visual Culture and Learning – specialisation Art Education

The Department of Visual Arts and Sloyd Education proudly presents the very first students from the Master’s programme in Visual Culture and Learning – specialisation Art Education!

It is no simple task these seven graduates, who now present their Master´s projects, have undertaken. Coming from diverse backgrounds in art and museum education, art, craft, filmmaking and teaching from preschool to higher education, they have immersed themselves in the field of Visual Culture and Learning. Through their studies, they have also helped to develop perspectives in both visual arts education, using visual and creative design, as well as scientific practices. The students alternate between these forms of knowledge, trying out the creative and performative possibilities of writing, art, design and craft making, thereby creating playful and visual learning spaces.

For their degree projects, they have explored the identity of places, identity formation in groups as well as the individual’s subjectivity formation in visual and material learning practices. Several of the projects have been carried out in collaboration with children and young people, in and outside of museums, schools and preschools. It is about creating prerequisites for creating and learning, for learning and teaching together. Collaborative aspects permeate many of the projects: together exploring a place as a relational space, making it one’s own, experiencing how it transforms and how time changes and shifts the perspectives. It bears repeating: learning is situated and collective.
