GLOBALISING LOCAL CRAFT enhancing collaboration between Indian rural artisans and Swedish IKEA designers

Three years ago, I went to India for the first time and it turned my world upside down. This crazy, busy and colourful country was not at all what I expected – but full of amazing craft as well as the friendliest people I had ever met.

I applied to Konstfack with an aim to explore how I, as a fashion designer, could take social responsibility in my work. When I got the opportunity to go to India and work with social textile entrepreneurs, there was no doubt in my mind.

My degree project explores how to strengthen the connection between rural Indian artisans and IKEA’s designers during the design and sampling process. The goal of my thesis is to suggest a design method, comprised of tools that will support the artisans and the designers to make attractive products for a global market.

GLOBALISING LOCAL CRAFT enhancing collaboration between Indian rural artisans and Swedish IKEA designers
