Kroppsnära Tjänster; WEIGHT DUVET

11 May, ongoing performance

Alva Willemark, Master’s programme in Fine Arts

Pågående performance i området av restaurangen. Ongoing performance in the vicinity of the restaurant.

“Weight duvet” – the object is used in health care settings, to confirm the body; where it begins and where it ends. An object in which weight acts as calming. In this participatory performance visitors are prompted to lie down on a bed to get my body weight over them, as I lie upon them, and may decide themselves the time duration.

Body-related services is an ongoing investigation of affective body-related labour. In this exhibition Willemark shows two works from a series of so far ten.

11 May, 5 pm, Svarta Havet

Callum Harper, Master’s programme in Fine Arts

40 minute performance

“http://ileftmyjoy@home.com” is a self-exploration performance about displacement, queer culture, societal attitudes and values. Created as a comparative work between Melbourne’s and Stockholm’s views and legislation toward LGBT citizens and the overall community, the textual components amalgamation into an emotive explosion of internalised thoughts and externalised experiences offers a humourist approach to how Harper navigates through his personal timeline. Combining notions of online dating, national identification and conscious othering, an insight is given into transitional states in life, how we are perceived and how it feels to be something different than normative in the mainstream.

Freedom or Fear?

11 May, 5-6 pm, Mandelgren

Saima Usman, CuratorLab

This planet earth where we live, is made up of many diverse cultural traditions. I want to spread the knowledge about my own religion as it is targeted by media and so called Muslim Politicians. Muslims have been keep on doing contributions in the advancement of the world from the Middle Ages as well as in the contemporary Europe. Medieval Spain such as Granada castle is a good example of Muslims presence in Europe from 711 to 1492. Muslims have been contributing in Science, Art, Architecture Mathematics, and all other fields respectively. It was a flourishing age that influenced the renaissance. Muslims ruled over Europe approximately 700-800 years. That time has been systematically removed from history. As a curator, I am doing more investigations on rich Muslim cultural history and raising questions of my own identity for the survival of my religious culture.

Curatorial Agency…? Or What determines curatorial practice today?

18 May, 4 – 5:30 pm, Graphic Design Department Kitchen

CuratorLab in conversation with Maria Lind, Marti Manen and Corina Oprea. As part of Konstfack’s Degree Exhibition 2017 CuratorLab has occupied the Graphic Design Department Kitchen for an collective enquiry on the role and conditions for curating today. For this event we have invited three prominent curators active in different curatorial contexts to reflect on the possibilities and challenges with curating, commissioning and expanding the forms of contemporary art. Starting from the question if and how the ‘curatorial’ and curatorial practice is possible to learn and teach, we want to discuss what curators need today to navigate geopolitical transformations with sometimes difficult consequence to national and regional cultural policies.

Marti Manen curator of 2017 edition of Konstfack’s Degree Exhibition, Maria Lind, Director of Tensta Konsthall and Corina Oprera, Artistic Director Konsthall C

ArtSci Nexus – An open platform for collaborative aesthetics

Artist-curator Candace Goodrich, in her lecture, will present the independent, open platform ARTSCI NEXUS, which enables curiosity within and between the humanities, arts, and sciences as an interdisciplinary, process-oriented meeting point for collaborative aesthetics. The Nexus introduces professionals and the public to new creative modes of research and data analysis. In addition to an overview of the network’s mission and team activities, she will address the crucial role that the arts and sciences must embody in defiance of the rise of authoritarianism, as a call to political action. Historically, the arts have been a cornerstone of social movements. As a marginalised group, they have the capacity to create innovative channels of subversion, for political cognizance and solidarity. As scientists march in demonstrations globally to defend open inquiry and evidence-based policy, recalcitrant in protecting and cataloguing decades of publicly-accessible research, engagement, advocacy, and collaboration is becoming increasingly critical. How can these epistemologically diverse sectors transgress their borders to create a more integrated society? Why are the arts and sciences under attack, and what does this mean in our quest for truth in a post-fact age?

DU och JAG och GREJEN

20 May, 1 pm, Glass Factory in Boda, Småland

Markus Emilsson, Research Lab CRAFT!

You and Me and the Thingi is a testing artistic act and work situation where the audience is offered an elevated position and a close encounter with the craftists work in the hotshop. In this Performance Lecture Glass Lab, Markus explores and reflects on the relations between audience, artist, objects and craft. It is an investigation on what can happen when we start playing with these positions and allowing and demanding other alternatives. The performance will be showed at the Glass Factory in Boda, Småland, on the 20th of May.

Did you ever hear about the magic that is the island of North Sentinel? Neither did I until a young American man told me about it. But let me not lose track here for I want to share a different story with you. One concerning an object and a travel through geography; history and perception of places.

Things I Had No Words For

20 May 2-3 pm, Svarta Havet lecture hall – with an introduction by Johanna Lewengard, Professor of Graphic Design

Benedetta Crippa, Master’s programme in Visual Communication

“The transformation of silence into language and action is an act of self-revelation.”
– Audre Lorde

Threatened by systems of oppression, visual or otherwise, what we carry inside can become unspeakable. In this talk, graphic designer Benedetta Crippa will depart from her degree work to bring the person at the center of the artistic process and delve into questions of liberation. What allows liberating work, and which processes of making can carry us through it? How can the art school make space for powerful transformations of consciousness, and encourage the practice of hope? Benedetta Crippa is a graphic designer graduating from Konstfack this year from the Master’s programme in Visual Communication. Her degree work World of Desire celebrates plurality and visual democracy is in the form of a handmade artist’s book.

http://ileftmyjoy@home.com

21 May, 3 pm, Svarta Havet
